iCam Video Surveillance iPhone App Review

iCam

I found a really nice application for my iPhone the other day that takes advantage of my iPhone and my Mac’s built in iSight camera. The iTunes Store App is called iCam from SKJM, LLC.

Basically what iCam does is takes your Mac’s iSight video & audio and streams it via the Web to your iPhone in real time. You can even receive up to 4 video feeds at a time to your iPhone.

You don’t “need” a Mac, you can also use a PC running the iCamSource software to send a WebCam video feed to your iPhone. And if you have an IP Internet Webcam that supports motion jpeg video you can also use it as an extra video source.

Here’s how it looks running on my iPhone:

Here’s what my setup looks like on the iPhone zoomed in:

I really like how easy iCam was to get going:

  1. Open the  iCamSource application on your computer and select your audio and video sources
  2. Create a username and password (no account setup required) and your pretty much ready to go.
  3. Now all you need to do on your iPhone is launch iCam and enter the username and password you entered on your computer.

(Setting up an IP Internet camera can be a bit trickier as you may have to do a bit of digging to find the source path for the streaming motion jpeg feed.)

iCam costs $4.99 and is soon to have additional push notification (extra 99 cents) that works by using motion sensing technology to send your iPhone a push notification (like a text message) whenever there is movement on one of your active video cameras.
