Paul and I recently made a trip out to Ohio which is a bit of trek for us as we traveled from Canada across the boarder to Seattle and then started our air portion of the trip which took us from Seattle to Chicago and then to Ohio. All in all this took us the entire day to accomplish much of which was in the air or sitting around waiting to get into the air.

That said we were fairly iPhone dependent to keep us connected and entertained along the way. The iPhone battery is great for regular day to day activities, especially when you have a home charger or car charger handy but we soon realized this would not be the case in this situation.

Paul and I checked out a few airport gadget stores and after taking a look at a few solutions for prolonging our iPhone usage we locked onto the IOGEAR GearPower. The IOGEAR GearPower is a backup battery designed for mobile devices like the iPhone, iPods, and other cellphones, PDAs and music playing devices. It comes with a bunch of adapter attachments that allow you to not only charge the IOGEAR GearPower via a USB port but also transfer that charge to your device.

The good news is that for about $20 the IOGEAR GearPower worked as intended and can easily take an iPhone from being almost completely dead right up to a full charge. This is because the IOGEAR GearPower has a 2000mAh battery which is about 600mAh more than what an iPhone 3G/s has internally.

What I like most about the IOGEAR GearPower is the fact that you can still use any case you want and when you need some more go-juice all you need to do is pull out the IOGEAR GearPower and your ready to go…
